At Macalla Farm, we are interested in all aspects of food—where it comes from, how it is grown, how it is prepared, how it is eaten.

We pay great attention to the quality of ingredients we use, nearly all the produce we use are organic or home grown. We are vegetarian and the food on all our courses is strictly vegetarian (with vegan and gluten free options on request). Over the years, as we grow more of our own food, producing (and eating!) meals that are both delicious and healthy, it has become clear that our food must not only sustain, but nurture as well.

For decades now, the modern industrial food system has been destroying the essential links between food, the environment and its place within human culture.  This in turn has damaged our individual and collective health as well as our consciousness. Society is now suffering the dire consequences. But as the writer Michael Pollan states, “To eat with a fuller consciousness of all that is at stake might sound like a burden, but in practice few things in life can afford quite as much satisfaction. “

Through the food we serve on our courses and retreats, as well as our seasonal vegetarian cooking courses and mindful eating retreats, we hope to inspire you to eat with this fuller consciousness. One can then re-discover the satisfaction that comes from connecting with real food—food that has been grown in soil that is rich with vitality,  prepared in a kitchen with attention and care and eaten with awareness.
