Clare Island Food Festival

As part of the Clare Island Food Festival,(postponed until September, dates TBC) we will be offering two workshops as well as a special deals on lunch at our newly opened Stone Barn Cafe. Special deal for the two workshops and lunch 45 euros.
There will also be guided tours of Macalla Farm gardens and polytunnels, starting at 1.30 and 3.30 pm.

Morning workshop, 12.30 – 1.30 pm, Sourdough Bread Making

More and more people are becoming aware that industrially made bread is making us ill. Learn how to make healthy — and most importantly– delicious sourdough bread from just three ingredients: flour, water and salt. 
Cost 20 euros, or 30 euros with lunch at the Stone Barn Cafe.
Price includes a loaf of sourdough bread, and a sourdough starter to take home if you wish.

Afternoon workshop, 2.30 – 3.30 pm, Fermented Food

The enormous health benefits of fermented foods are now beginning to be widely recognized.
At Macalla Farm, we have been experimenting with fermented food for more than a decade and are passionate about getting others started on their fermentation path. This short workshop will introduce fermented drinks  (kombucha, kefir)  and fermented vegetables (sauerkraut, kimchis), and  you’ll have a chance to taste previous batches and take home with you simple recipes.
As much as possible, ingredients used will be harvested from the farm’s organic gardens.
