Rossella Baroncini was born and lives in Florence, Italy where she trained as a yoga teacher and has been teaching classes, workshops and private lessons since 1987. A direct long time student of Vanda Scaravelli (author of Awakening the Spine, 1991) she began her studies with her in 1983 at the age of 26 having individual lessons until 1999. Rossella continues to explore the teaching she has received from many years of practice and her relationship with Vanda, maintaining her simplicity and freedom.
Rossella has been coming to Macalla Farm to teach her intensive since 2005. Her unique teaching style allows students to explore the process of un-doing which offers the means of dissolving tension, blockages, expectations, strivings. She invites you to slow down, go deep and go far — exploring the outer edges of your universe as you breathe, connect with gravity, free your spine. Practising in this way provides a different way of exploring the relationship to one’s body and its connection to earth.
This retreat is designed for experienced yoga practitioners and yoga teachers due to the subtle and advanced nature of the work; a class will often explore only a handful of postures, peeling back layers to reveal the rhythms and processes lying at their foundations.
Please note that this course involves periods of silence. To truly gain the benefits of being on retreat, we encourage students to turn off phones and any other electronic devices while you are here on the farm.
There will be 5 hours of yoga teachings each day as well as a half an hour silent sit at 7.30 to begin the day.
Testimonial – Caitriona, Dublin 2018
“Recieving teaching from Rossella for a fourth year in a row is a tender gift of self compassion. Feeling free movement of the spine in and of itself, really connecting with gravity and nature on the island has been a new insight which is changing my yoga practice. Supported by the conscious living environment of Macalla Farm – a glorious place -The body is given every opportunity to restore and to heal. The body is enlivened by the island’s activities – swimming in the sea, quiet walks, and savoring delicious organic vegetarian food at the farm. I’m always surprised at how grounded I feel after spending a week there and always sorry to leave, humbled by Rossellas teaching and the sheer joy, love and generosity shown by the team at Macalla Farm.”

With my French partner, Christophe, we had just started running a purpose built yoga retreat centre on the island, which was also our home. I attended Rossella’s first retreat curious as to the style she was teaching…” Read more.
