Deepening your practice: Sati yoga intensive for intermediate and advanced students

19 August - 25 August

Yoga Retreat

This intensive retreat is the next level course to the Sati yoga week long retreat (Developing a practice) and is ideal for those who have already studied with us and have an understanding of our approach. Students who have an established practice in any style of yoga are also very welcome. We will continue to explore the use of various mindfulness ‘tools’, particularly those which enhance our awareness of the breath, allowing students to deepen their practice while finding and maintaining the balance between physical and meditative practices. The basics of classical yoga as well as elements of the Anapasati and Sattipathana Suttas (the main discourses in which the Buddha explains the establishment of mindfulness) will support our inquiry.

Sati yoga offers us a way to slow down our practice, whilst maintaining an intensity of focus. A wide range of asanas, from fundamental to advanced will be explored. We will also experiment with vinyasa practice while paying close attention to the quality of each breath, exploring different ways to synchronise movement and breathing. There will be an emphasis on how working skilfully with our breath can increase flexibility as well as making us stronger in postures which require these qualities.  This course also explores a unique approach to breathwork, drawing from both the Buddhist perspective exposed in the Anapanasati sutta and the practices of classical pranayama. There will be periods of self-practice within the class schedule so as to help students integrate the material into their own practice.

This retreat is designed for already experienced yoga or meditation practitioners, and is especially suitable for yoga teachers.
Formal meditation practice is an important part of the retreat and there will be plenty of opportunities for feedback and Q&A.
Please note that this course involves periods of silence. To truly gain the benefits of being on retreat, we will also encourage students to turn off phones and any other electronic devices while you are here on the farm.

This course is only suitable for people with an established yoga practice. Participants must be able to sit still in either padmasana, siddhasana or virasana / vajrasana for 20 minutes. Yoga teachers are very welcome and will greatly benefit from doing this course.
