Conscious living and learning: a practice and work retreat
4 September - 16 September
Come and join us at Macalla Farm during this 12 day work retreat.
Limited to only six students, the Conscious living and learning retreat offers those with an existing yoga / meditation / mindfulness practice a wonderful opportunity to explore these practices more deeply as well as experiencing sustainable living in a congenial environment.
While there will be some formal tuition in yoga and mindfulness techniques, as well as daily evening meditation sessions, the morning sessions will be mostly self practice, and for this reason, this retreat is only suitable for people who have already have an established practice. Individual sessions with either of the teachers will also be available, allowing students to explore specific areas of their practice with guidance.
For 2 to 3 hours each day, you will also participate in some of the tasks on the farm, such as work in the garden, with the animals or in the kitchen under the guidance of ourselves or of one of our long term volunteers. This is an opportunity to put mindfulness in practice, as well as to learn new skills and to gain an insight into the practicalities of living mindfully on a farm.
The atmosphere during these retreats is relaxed and convivial: we will all eat together once a day (usually for lunch), the other meals you prepare, often with our long term volunteers, from organic ingredients produced here on the farm. Seasonal eating becomes a focal point and you gain a true connection with the land you are walking (and working) on.
Note that in order to create a retreat atmosphere, the house you are staying in will be in silence in the evenings after meditation and in the mornings until breakfast as well as during most morning work sessions. We ask participants to turn off phones and all other electronic devices while staying at the farm (yes, this means no Internet:). Please plan accordingly.
All teaching on the retreat is on donation
Note that this retreat is only suitable for people who already have a regular yoga or mindfulness (or other type of meditation) practice. If you don’t have a solid experience of home practice, you should instead book for one of our “Developing a practice course“.
